The dewback are native reptiles of the underdeveloped Tatooine. They normally feed on small bushes, also womp rat pups and scurriers. Most of these creatures are wild, but some have been domesticated and used as mounts. Local Tatooine authorities use them as patrol animals, because they are well suited to withstand the high temperatures and sand storms that often harm the traditional slider vehicles. Even in a strong sandstorm a dewback take its rider to his destination without even complaining. A dewback is faster and more agile than the plodding giant Bantha and Ronto, giving Imperial patrols an edge over Tusken raiders and Jawas.
